Phonon representations ( lattice / spectrum )
The gap between the nonlocalized latticephonon description and the localized Einstein oscillator treatment is filled by transforming the phonon Hamiltonian back to the particle variables. The particle-coordinate, normalized, wave function for the phonon vacuum state is exhibited. The lattice phonon is a spatially nonlocalized concept. There are circumstances, however, that require its combinati...
متن کامل0 On Generalizations of the Spectrum Condition
It is well known that the spectrum condition, i.e. the positivity of the energy in every inertial coordinate system, is one of the central conceptual ingedients in model-independent approaches to relativistic quantum field theory. When one attempts to formulate quantum field theory in a model-independent manner on a curved background spacetime, it is not immediately clear which concepts replace...
متن کاملPassivity and Microlocal Spectrum Condition
In the setting of vector-valued quantum fields obeying a linear wave-equation in a globally hyperbolic, stationary spacetime, it is shown that the two-point functions of passive quantum states (mixtures of groundor KMS-states) fulfill the microlocal spectrum condition (which in the case of the canonically quantized scalar field is equivalent to saying that the two-point function is of Hadamard ...
متن کاملObeying the clock yields benefits for metabolism.
W hile we can’t choose our parents, we certainly can choose our friends. And just as we choose our friends, it is also a rite of passage that we break the rules that our parents set, even those that provide healthful benefits. In fact, one of the most common patterns to change with entry into adulthood is the adherence to a ‘‘normal’’ bedtime and disruption in the alignment between periods of a...
متن کاملPosition measurements obeying momentum conservation.
We present a hitherto unknown fundamental limitation to a basic measurement: that of the position of a quantum object when the total momentum of the object and apparatus is conserved. This result extends the famous Wigner-Araki-Yanase theorem, and shows that accurate position measurements are only practically feasible if there is a large momentum uncertainty in the apparatus.
